All lovers of the sea and diving watches have dreamed with him; he who made us discover the wonders of the underwater world and gave us the desire to explore and learn again and again. It is the memory of Jacques Yves Cousteau and his ship Calypso IWC, partner of the Cousteau Society has created the Aquatimer Cousteau Divers Chronograph.
But let’s be clear: this edition, designed in 2500 copies, was produced primarily for the restoration of the legendary ship of Jacques Cousteau: Calypso.
In fact, this old minesweeper that traveled the seven seas and supported many diving expeditions sank in 1996 due to collision in the port of Singapore. Therefore he was raised and forwarded to the Maritime Museum of La Rochelle but with an uncertain future.
That’s when the Cousteau Society , in partnership with IWC decided not to let Calypso die, as it is a symbol and flag value of Cousteau.
IWC Schaffhausen is a sponsor of these costly restorations and a portion of the funds collected from the sale of these limited edition watches has just served to rehabilitate this exceptional ship. And thanks to the sale of timepieces from the first special edition (which contained the back of the watch genuine and tiny fragment of wood from the hull of Calypso) the routing of the ship at the shipyard was made possible.
Real tribute to the explorations by Cousteau with Calypso, the Aquatimer Cousteau Diver Chronograph features a background box decorated with a painting under glass Calypso at sea as an Aquatimer, the watch has all the traditional “attributes” as the inner rotating bezel that allows you to set dive time. Resistant to a maximum pressure of 12 bars, this Aquatimer watch endorses beautiful colors and for this edition blue and yellow.
Indexes and luminescent hands, day and date at 3 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock and a rubber strap making it effective and beautiful.
