A history of the watch
The vintage watch has a great resurgence of interest in recent years. Reissues of these legendary models, over the years become real icons which are generally very well received. Finally, the whole thing is to know how to choose the time and understand what is expected by watch enthusiasts as well as they can cry foul when the design of the watch was claimed to be changed but didn’t changed, very disappointing. Not easy.
With this new Tag Heuer Silverstone , Jack Heuer and Jean-Christophe Babin won their bet: the reissue released in 2010 was a resounding success.
The Heuer Silverstone watch was created in 1974 and named after the eponymous race track, Silverstone Circuit, known for hosting big races, mainly the Grand Prix of Great Britain Formula 1.
Thinking outside the box
In 1949, the Grand Prix of Great Britain takes place for the first time. The race was won by Emmanuel de Graffenried. Over the years, the circuit hosts the biggest races, and the world’s greatest drivers such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Jo Siffert, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Lewis Hamilton, David Coulthard.
In 1974, to commemorate the victories of the biggest names in racing out the chonographe Heuer Silverstone, somewhat in line with the Monaco model , released in 1969 and acclaim in 1971 with the film Le Mans in which Steve McQueen was the star . The Monaco, at the time, breaks the rules with its square case and Silverstone follows outside the box, to meet also the admiration of the public. In this one they obviously have the drivers. The first to wear were Clay Regazzoni and Emerson Fittipaldi, become stars for the watch brand, and quickly followed by their counterparts.
This shows the name that sounds like a testimony of a time bring them luck since the same year Emerson Fittipaldi won the World Championship F1 Silverstone with this on his wrist, and in 1979 Clay Regazzoni won the Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Style, always
A square box with rounded edges, intense color, a beautiful dial with chrono, with Heuer at the time, the design is already a major concern. Symbol of the 70 watch, the Silverstone has automatic Calibre 11 movement, it is the first time trial world with micro-rotor.
